Charsiu or Chinese BBQ pork is always a favorite among kids and adults alike. Gardenia is our favorite brand when it comes to bread. We combine these two classic favorites of our family into a delicious snack, which always delights our taste buds.
Sharing my Gardenia Charsiu Bread Pockets. A simple and easy-to-make snack made using the Gardenia Classic Loaf with a mouth-watering sweet and savory filling. This recipe can be deep fried or air-fried.
Sauce: 1 tbsp light soy sauce 1 tbsp dark soy sauce 1 tbsp oyster sauce 3 tbsp white sugar 1 cup water
Olive oil Water in a small bowl
Prepare skillet and set heat to medium. Add 1 tbsp oil. Add diced onion and cook until onion sweats and becomes translucent.
Add diced charsiu and cook for a few minutes.
Add the prepared sauce and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 8 minutes with occassional stirring. Add cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce.
Turn off heat and let it cool down.
Prepare Gardenia Classic Loaf. Use a knife to cut off the edges of the bread. Use a rolling pin to flatten the bread. Apply a little more pressure on the edges.
Add a small amount of the charsiu filling to the flattened bread. Dip your finger in the water and wet the edges of the bread with your fingers.
Fold the bread and gently press the edges to form a bread pocket. Use a fork to seal the edges on both sides.
Place bread pockets air fryer basket. Brush both sides with olive oil. Set air fryer temp to 190C and cook for 4-5 minutes. Remove basket from air fryer. Flip the bread pockets. Set temp to 200C and cook for another 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.
